De topic is inderdaad antimoon.
En mogelijk schuilt hier de adder onder het gras:
zowel in de afdeling Speciality Chemicals (waar ze antimoontrioxide maken) als in de afdeling Circular Metals (waar ze naast lood o.a. ook antimoon uit oude batterijen halen) speelt dit metaal een rol.

Hoe kan het dat bij Circulair Metals bij een daling van de omzet met 11% t.o.v. 2023 en met een sluiting in 2024 van een fabriek gedurende 4 maanden er toch een EBITDA groei is met 22% tot EUR 27,1 miljoen ? Mijns inziens door de enorme prijsstijging van het antimoon, dat ze in deze divisie (Metals Recovery) uit de batterijen halen. De gem. prijs van het lood was EUR 1,915/ton, de gem. prijs van antimoon EUR 23,150/ton.

Zolang China de export tegenhoudt, zal de prijs hoog blijven en doorslaggevend zijn voor de resultaten van Campine.
Misschien volgt er verduidelijking bij de definitieve resultaten eind april.

Last Friday on March 21st, 2025, I was invited to speak at the 11th Antimony Forum, organised by Asian Metal in the beautiful city of hashtag#Xiamen in China, where I presented on the Antimony Trioxide and Metal Trade in the West after August 2024.

The Chinese export restrictions on Antimony and Antimony Trioxide, effective since September 2024, have turned the global antimony supply chain upside down—forcing the Western market to adapt rapidly. At Campine , we have stepped up to fill the gaps left by reduced Chinese exports into the Western ATO market. However, while the short-term price surge has been dramatic, it could push industries to substitute antimony with alternative compounds, particularly in the flame retardant sector.
Looking ahead, the supply is expected to rebalance in the next 1-2 years due to:
New mining projects coming online
Increased metal production in Southeast Asia
More ATO production outside China (Campine’s capacity is 20,000 MT/year)
Expanded recycling efforts (Campine is building its fourth Antimony recycling reactor based on our own technology)
Potential geopolitical shifts in Critical Raw Materials (CRMs)
As a result, I would expect hashtag#antimony prices to return to their "pre-restriction" level.

Meanwhile, Chinese domestic metal prices are catching up fast to support the country’s need to import antimony concentrates—a necessity since China became a net importer of antimony units in 2018.
The growing international importance of antimony was reflected in the conference attendance:
2023 (Zhuhai): 150 attendees (mostly Asian)
2024 (Xiamen): 300+ attendees, with significantly more Western participation.
The industry is evolving fast, and Campine remains at the forefront—ensuring a hashtag#stable, hashtag#sustainable, and hashtag#innovative supply of hashtag#ATO for the years to come.

Dat brengt ons bij de divisie Specialty Chemicals, waar Campine tot voor kort de derde grootste producent van antimoontrioxide ter wereld was. Door geopolitieke ontwikkelingen is Campine nu echter marktleider geworden. "China heeft de export van antimoon houdende producten naar westerse landen geblokkeerd, waardoor hun hegemonie is verdwenen. Dit heeft onze positie drastisch veranderd: vandaag worden we wereldwijd, inclusief door de Amerikaanse overheid, gecontacteerd voor samenwerkingen.”, zegt Wim De Vos.

Het gaat bij deze niche speler niet meer over de resultaten maar over de technologie die zij gebruiken.

Wat kunnen we meenemen uit het artikel ?

Campine beschikt over een unieke technologie om antimoon te recycleren. Er zijn contacten om met Campine samen te werken.

Momenteel is Campine enkel actief in Frankrijk en ons land. Wanneer zij hun technologie op een veel grotere schaal kunnen gebruiken kan dit hun resultaat doen exploderen.

Ik blijf dus rustig de situatie opvolgen..

Antimoon en andere zeldzame metalen uitzondering op Trump’s nieuwe import tarieven. Goed nieuws dus. Export naar US in 2023 sowieso minder dan 10% van de omzet. Data 2024 nog niet beschikbaar.
