Commenting on the grant of the Hong Kong patent, Archer CEO Dr Mohammad Choucair
said: “The grant of the 12CQ chip patent in Hong Kong is great news. A patent is evidence of
invention and patent protection in major markets is a central element in Archer’s strategy to
develop the 12CQ chip.
“The patent granting procedure related to the 12CQ chip technology has been an outstanding
success. With the grant of the Hong Kong patent, all the patent applications in the current 12CQ
chip portfolio have now been granted, with protection given by the patent systems in the US,
China, Japan, South Korea, Europe, and Australia.”
“Archer is one of few companies with granted patents protecting quantum computing chip
technology and one with a unique global competitive advantage.”

The patent so far is the one filed many moons and years ago. There are more refinements and design elements that have been added since. Very impressive ones IMO.

AXE only a few months ago, finished a design stage via simulation and modelling. I assume this confirmed quantum electronic device design that can be made by latest lithography at major foundries is also going to need a patent or patents. All semiconductor companies have many patents and IPs that forms the language they negotiate in.


Meanwhile last month the NSW gov announced the Semiconductor Sector Service Bureau (S3B) . Working with Uni of Sydney, UNSW, Macquarie etc to promote and commercialize the semiconductor industry in Australia. The idea is to provide a broker service to tech here to access major global foundries. IPs play a key role in these negotiations. The semiconductor eco system is extremely complex. Almost makes designing a quantum semiconductor chip easier by comparison. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised if AXE announces it has given the job to S3B. Anyhoo, we are getting towards rubber-meets-the-road practicalities of commercialization and there should be much more exciting news in coming months.
